The Closing Ceremony, lead by songwriter and educator
Larry Long, was a mutual blessing exchanged among the participants.
After the participants formed pairs, Larry guided them through the actions
depicted in the lyrics of the Blessing Song based on the words and stories
of First Nation’s elder, Delores
Wasche. Soon the room
was filled with people lightly touching each other’s ears,
eyes, nose, and mouth as they wished each other well on the journey
home.

Blessing Song
Bless these ears, so the only thing
they hear
Are the good things around you
Bless these eyes, so the only thing they see
Are the good things around you
Bless this nose so that you will only smell
The good things around you
Bless this mouth, so the words you speak
Are filled with the wisdom
To guide you through this life with understanding
And love, love, sweet love
Bless these feet so wherever they take you will only
be filled with love, sweet love
Bless you may you always
make good decisions
Bless you, may they always come
straight from the heart
Of love, love, sweet love.
Think about it once
Think about it twice
Think about it three times (Repeat Stanza)
Bless these hands so the only thing you touch
Are the good things around you.
